Quoting

On his blog, the author Derek Sivers has a post where he says, "Why don’t we just say the idea, instead of referencing and quoting it?"

I don't agree. I think it's important to understand where certain ideas come from so that the reader can explore the sources themselves. I've picked up books after seeing or hearing them referenced several times in several sources.

It makes more sense to delegate the attribution of the quote to a footnote and not take up space in the main body1. That seems like a fair compromise to present sources without compromising readability and flow.

The rabbit holes may still be entered at will, they're just placed out of the way.
