Unreasonable Excuses

Hi,

Though the following reasons are completely unreasonable, you will find they are at least consistently so.

1.

I read Gravity's Rainbow by Thomas Pynchon. I plodded through the entire thing, every single page. I don't think I understood much of anything, not least why it is so revered.

Reading that book drained me of the mental capacity to write any words of my own.

2.

Devoid of mental capacity, I used up what physical capacity I could muster to run my fastest 5K in October. I had hoped to finish sub-30 minutes; I finished sub-28 minutes instead! I'm still catching my breath...

3.

On very short notice, I flew back home to Chennai for a couple of weeks. The time difference totally disoriented my body. For most people, this presents as mere disruptions to sleep cycles; I, as a superior being, came completely unstuck in time.

It took the End of the Saving of the Daylight to knock the jetlag out of me, rooting me to a finite point in time (and space, but I'd managed that already).

4.

Speaking of lagging Jets, I inflicted on myself significant emotional trauma by becoming, despite myself, a fan of that mediocre, bumbling, incompetent franchise that should be ashamed to associate itself with the sport of football, the city of New York, or even, for that matter, with any city or any sport altogether.

Those are my perfectly unreasonable excuses for neglecting you, dear blog, for the past little while.

I'm sorry, blog. But I'm here now, wishing you a happy first birthday. I expect to be around more often, if you'll have me.
